GemGenève will be hosting a variety of educational activities aimed to give connoisseurs and collectors, members of the press, as well as the general public, the opportunity to discover the breath and calibre of jewels and gemstones on display at the show. These activities will be organised in close collaboration with leading jewellery historians Vivienne Becker, Vanessa Cron, Amanda Triossi, and Dr. Michael Krzemnicki of SSEF.
Vivienne Becker will present on Contemporary Jewellery: Modernism and the Cult of Individuality, looking at trends in contemporary jewellery and focusing specifically on the work of individual designer jewellers as presented in the Gemgenève Contemporary Designer Showcase, curated by Vivienne for Vivarium.
Vanessa Cron will take participants to a journey through the design specifics of two of the major jewellery styles of the 20th Century: the Art Deco and the Retro.
Amanda Triossi will focus on Jewels of the 1960s and 1970s, a period of jewellery of strong longstanding personal interest to her, and recently a very hot field for collectors, including a guided handling section to facilitate a first-hand appreciation of some of the striking bold organic, colourful objects of the period.
Dr. Michael Krzemnicki of SSEF will give insight into “New Gem Deposits: Opportunities and Challenges for Trade and Gem Labs”.
