The Swiss Gemmological Institute SSEF is located in Basel, Switzerland and offers gemstone reports for the international trade.

SSEF is member of CIBJO and ICA and highly reputed for origin determination of coloured stones, natural pearl identification, diamond grading (CIBJO standards), testing coloured diamonds, and detection of HPHT treated diamonds.
SSEF places a strong emphasis on research and recently pioneered age dating of pearls and GemTOF testing of coloured gemstones.

SSEF’s Education department offers a wide range of gemmological courses, for individuals and for groups, on standard or selected topics.
