Yerevan-based jewellery designer Shavarsh Hakobian has always been driven by the passion to experiment with unconventional materials, such as wood, leather, fabrics, tusk, butterfly wings., combining them with precious metals and gemstones.
Since 2008, when he launched his namesake brand, Shavarsh Hakobian Jewelry, he has been making one-of-a-kind or limited edition statement jewels, meant both for women and men.
As an artist, he pays a lot of attention to wax carving. This process gives him absolute freedom of self-expression. Through wax carving Shavarsh improvises with forms, volumes, and dimensions. This is his way of “feeling” the piece while making it.
Every jewellery piece created by Shavarsh reveals an effortless balance between bold shapes and tiny details. “Anything that surrounds me can become a source of inspiration for creating a jewel, whether it be a nice piece of music, a butterfly landing on a flower, a peculiar part of a building, or the movement of a watch mechanism”, says the designer. A perfectionist himself, he strives for aesthetic perfection and completeness in his creations, thinking over the minutiae of each and every detail.
